• San Francisco Zen Center was established in 1962 by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi (1904-1971).  It is one of the largest Buddhist Sanghas in this country, and offers practice at City Center in San Francisco, Green Gulch Farm Zen Center in Marin County, and Tassajara Mountain Center in a wilderness setting.  We are honored to be affiliated with SFZC and the Soto lineage of Suzuki Roshi and are deeply appreciative of the support and kindness of the many SFZC teachers who have visited over the years.
  • Russian River Zendo. Darlene Cohen and Tony Patchell, both Zen teachers in the Soto lineage of Suzuki Roshi, have recently remodeled their cottage in the redwoods of Sonoma County, California, opening a beautiful sitting space.

A Buddhist Chaplaincy program serving destitute AIDS patients and their families under the direction of Beth Goldring, a student of the late Maurine Myo-on Stuart and old friend of  EHZC. Donations for this project can be sent to Empty Hand Zen Center and are regualrly forwarded to Beth in Cambodia.
  • Inner Explorations, founded by James and Tyra Arraj, Christian Contemplatives, have a series of in-depth interviews of leaders from many spiritual traditions. Zen Journey (1991) is a fascinating talk with Susan Ji-on Postal of EHZC.

  • Zen Center of Syracuse. Founded by Roko Chayat, former student of Maurine Myo-on Stuart, and the editor of Subtle Sound: The Teachings of Maurine Stuart, completed her training under Eido Shimano Roshi, and is the first female American Zen teacher to receive full transmission in the Rinzai line.
  • Nebraska Zen Center. Led by Rev. Nonin Chowaney, disciple of Katagiri Roshi. A dear friend and frequent guest teacher at EHZC for over a decade. In the last several years, Nonin has offered inspiring annual workshops on Zen in Poetry (American, Chinese, and Japanese).  He also has regularly brought Calligraphy - with demonstration- for a show and sale to benefit both NZC and EHZC.
