Zen Kids! Fall 2011

Boys and Girls, ages 5 - 11, with parent (older kids can serve as helpers)
No charge for members, $10 per family for non-members
Please confirm attendance by the Thursday before, via email or clipboard
Pre-registration is essential so that seating and materials can be prepared. 

An opportunity for children to visit the place where their parent practices, to sit on the very same cushions and taste the variety of ways that we practice together here. 

Three Saturday afternoon monthly meetings are planned in this Fall Season.

Most gatherings will open with brief meditation, a look at some basic teachings of Buddhism, and then close with energetic chanting.

 

September 24
New Rochelle Arts Fest 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Come when you can! There will be many wonderful events, especially at the library across the street – drummers and dancers and other performers galore. 

We will be a venue for a family art workshop, Enso: the Circle of Life, Together creating a large original sandpainting which will be brushed away at the end of the day.

Everyone can also make paper Enso collages, filled with life’s diversity, circled by equality, to take home. 

 

October 15
Hungry Ghosts! 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM 
In preparation for our annual Hungry Ghost Ceremony, we will make ghostsof breezy fabric to hang on bare branches. Within the head of each ghost will be some aspect of greed you see in yourself.

Sunday, October 30 
The Hungry Ghost Ceremony, 11:30 AM –
You are invited to join us in an Ancient Buddhist ceremony to relieve all suffering.


November 12 
Giving Thanks to Native Americans 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Learning more of the native people who met the early Huguenots righthere in New Rochelle, we will work with for our art project and taste some delicious treats made with corn and maple sugar.

Led by two grandmas:  Susan Ji-on Postal, Zen Teacher, and Janice Haynes, retired educator.  Assisted by Shevaun Mosley and her mom, Sharon Mosley.
